Gwyneth Paltrow is the latest Hollywood A-lister to come out of the Botox closet, admitting that she has used the wrinkle eraser before. However, she expresses regret, and quips that she will not do it again.

In the May issue of Harper’s Bazaar, Gwyneth said in an interview: “I’ve probably tried everything,” she continues. “I would be scared to go under the knife, but you know, talk to me when I’m 50. I’ll try anything. Except I won’t do Botox again, because I looked crazy. I looked like Joan Rivers!”

Nicole Kidman in 2013, looking beautiful and wrinkle-free still

Gwyneth is not the only Hollywood star admitting to Botox. 2 years ago, Nicole Kidman finally admitted to having Botox done, despite denying it earlier (and despite the world already knowing that she has the procedure done). Nicole said in 2011: “I’ve tried a lot of things, but apart from working out and a good diet, most things don’t help.. I even tried Botox… I didn’t like how my face looked afterwards .. Now I don’t use it anymore – I can move my forehead again!”

Nicole may say that she has sworn off Botox, but recent pictures of the 45 year old actress still show her looking amazingly beautiful and wrinkle-free.

Acid-tongued Joan Rivers was not going to take the comment from Gwyneth lying down. Shortly after, Joan told PEOPLE magazine:

Joan River says she looks scary without Botox.

Botox has gotten a really bad reputation through the years, no thanks to over-exposure in the media, and doctors and patients alike doing too much of it. Botox works by weaken muscles, hence, it can make someone look “unnatural”, “frozen” or “insincere”. That does not mean it is all bad. When done skilfully and in small doses, Botox can look natural, and make you look fresher. The key is moderation, and finding a skilled injector to perform the procedure for you. These days, I only use very small doses of Botox – it gives a much more superior result. All the lines may not be gone, but the goal of treatment is achieved- to look better.“It just made me laugh. She says Botox made her scary like Joan Rivers? She should see what I look like without Botox. That’s really scary!”.. “I would have written the response myself, but I have so much Botox in my thumbs, I can’t type,” she added after calling in to respond instead of writing in.

Dr Siew before after 2013

In 2011, too much Botox made me look scary too!

Earlier this week, I only just posted an article about how cosmetic treatments can feminise a male face, and how, in 2011 when I was obsessed with erasing all the lines on my face, ended up injecting too much Botox into myself, and looking very much like a silicone caricature of myself as a result – I looked strange and “insincere”, as some friends pointed out.

Like Gwyneth Paltrow, I never want to go back there again. But I will not be so extreme as to swear off Botox. I will just learn from experience, and learn how to have it done in moderation, not only for myself, but for all my patients.
