Kylie Jenner’s sexy pout has been the talk of the town for some time now. In a bid to achieve Kylie’s luscious lips, a new trend emerged on the Internet 2 weeks ago. Dubbed the “Kylie Jenner Challenge”, teenagers sucked on a shotglass as hard as they can. The resulting vacuum effect caused their lips to swell to epic proportions. All over the internet, teenagers were posting pictures of their newly acquired, disfigured and bruised lips with the hashtag #kyliejennerchallenge

How Does The Kylie Jenner Challenge Work?

The pressure from sucking on the shotglass causes the lips to become engorged with blood, much like what happens during an injury. The inflammatory response then causes the lips to swell to many times their size. Capillaries are also broken, causing swelling, bruising and petechie (red spots).

The Dangers of The Kylie Jenner Challenge

You do not need a doctor to tell you that causing your lips to swell to 10 times their size is not good for you. Besides the pain (your lips are one of the most heavily innervated areas on your body) from the inflammation, bruising occurs as the pressure from sucking causes the blood vessels to break. The pain, bruising and swelling will last anything from 5-10 days in most cases, depending on severity.

The worst part: in more severe cases, the effects may be long lasting. If bigger vessels are affected, the bruising and swelling can last months, causing long-lasting disfigurement.

The Truth Behind Kylie Jenner’s Lips

Teenage reality TV star Kylie Jenner is a beautiful young lady. However, it is her lips that have stolen all the limelight the past year. Practically everyone has been speculating whether she has had plastic surgery to enhance her lips, which have changed dramatically.

For months, Kylie has denied the plastic surgery rumours: “I’m like, ‘Stop talking about my lips,'” Kylie told Grazia in Apr 2015. “I haven’t had plastic surgery. I’ve never been under the knife.'” She attributed her amazing increase in pout size to growing up, and overlining her lips with make-up.

Teens all over the world were heartened to learn that you could make your lips dramatically more beautiful without any procedures – and that was how the Kylie Jenner Challenge was born.

What the shotglass-sucking teenagers did not know, is that Kylie Jenner has had injectable fillers to plump up her lips. Last week, she finally admitted to undergoing filler injections on an episode of Keeping Up With the Kardashians. ‘Kylie decided to plump her lips and I don’t think there’s anything wrong with that,’ said big sister Khloe Kardashian. ‘But if you keep avoiding the question, you’re going to look like a liar,’ added Khloe.

So yes, the cat is finally out of the bag, and the plastic surgery rumours can finally be put to rest: Kylie Jenner’s to-die-for pout is the result of filler injections, not make-up, not puberty, and certainly not sucking on a shot-glass (incidentally, Kylie herself was clever enough to decline the Kylie Jenner Challenge).

Injectable Fillers For Beautiful Lips

Hyaluronic Acid Fillers are the best choices for enhancing the lips. Gone are the days when lips fillers created lumpy sausage lips. When used correctly, fillers will enhance your lips, define their shape, and restore youthfulness to your face.

In my practice, most ladies do not want larger lips. What they want are better looking lips. Lip shape is just as important as lip volume: Beautiful lips have well-defined borders and upturned lip corners. Hence, most of the time, I use fillers to define the lip contours by injecting them along the border of the lips.

The most common signs of ageing of the lips are dry, chapped lips, and the appearance of vertical lines, as a result of loss of hydration and collagen. Fillers can be used to solve the problem. Microinjections of a very soft filler is used, reducing lines and restoring hydration. This treatment, Revitalift, is very natural, and perfect for someone who is keen to just improve hydration and lip lines, without any increase in volume.

Of course, there are also people who are keen for more luscious, Angelina Jolie-type lips. For these patients, I use a a more robust filler such as Emervel Volume, to achieve the effect. Emervel Volume is a stiffer filler which gives a good lifting and volumizing effect.

It is a very good thing that Kylie Jenner finally came out of the plastic surgery closet. There is nothing wrong with getting procedures done to look better, but lying about it definitely is.
