Restylane Hydrolift: A Novel Method of Using Hyaluronic Acid Fillers

Initially used to soften facial lines like the nasolabial fold, Restylane was later used to also fill in any volume deficiency, such as those which occur with skin aging, and also so augment facial features, such as accentuating the nasal bridge. Today, less viscous formulations of Restylane (e.g. Restylane Vital Light) are also used to hydrate the skin and improve skin texture.

However, the aspect of Restylane which I feel is most remarkable, is its strange ability to cure skin sagging!

I first witnessed how Restylane can be used for facelifting in 2008. Then, Dr Wilai, one of the founders of the technique, demonstrated how she used could Restylane fillers to lift the skin. I was initially skeptical of her claims – using  a hyaluronic acid filler in such a way went beyond conventional reasoning.

But lo and behold, after 10 minutes, before our eyes, the patient’s marrionette and nasolabial lines started to improve; the jowls started to become less visible, and the facial contour began to slimdown – The technique actually worked!The picture here shows the patient’s face, 10 minutes after the procedure. The patient’s left had been treated, giving her a slimmer and more lifted contour, improved nasolabial fold, and a plumber cheek.

Turns out that Restylane, because of its amazing water-drawing capabilities and good volume support, causes the skin to lift as well, when injected along the vectors (lines of force) which we want to create the lifting effects.  The results can be seen in as little as 10 minutes, and will continue to improve over the next 4 weeks to give its maximal results, as the Restylane stimulates the skin to produce collagen. Amazingly, the results can last up to a year.
